GP OF THE NETHERLAND: HIGH SPEED, MUD AND GLORY, CAIROLI IS THE WORLD CHAMPION WITH ATHENA
issued 31 Aug 2009
Antonio Cairoli has just achieved in Lierop, the Netherland, his third World Title, the first wrapped up in the MX1 Queen class for 450cc motorbikes. The Sicilian won after a very tough competition held in a truck, which is commonly considered to be “the Motocross Academy” for its sandy bottom as deep as the sea. Cairoli rode with a double injection for pain relief (one in each heat) due to the worsening pain in his left knee, which was operated last year when the Sicilian had to kiss the title goodbye after a bad injury in South Africa. «First thing I want to thank my family, my team and all those Italian fans who have come to Holland to support me, Cairoli said. The way things were, I didn’t believe I would be able to bring home the Title here in Holland where it is not easy to stay up if you are not 100% in a good shape. Now the last goal is Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations October 4, we have to win it as well…». Very please is also ATHENA SpA General manager Mr Erardo Ratzenbeck, who attended the Holland race track « for our Company this is an important victory, since for the first time ever a bike equipped with a cylinder kit manufactured and branded Athena triumphs in a World Championship. It has been a great test and an unbelievable experience lab either for Athena and our electronic branch Get. I can already confirm that our tech collaboration with Antonio Cairoli and Claudio De Carli’s team will continue next year too».In the saddle of a Red Bull Yamaha de Carli YZ450R, equipped with the Italian cylinder kit ATHENA and the engine control unit GET GPX (working on parameters of the data acquisition system GET MD4 based on the GPS), the Sicilian began race 1 far behind De Dycker, but was able to restore qualifying 5th. Thanks to the good place obtained Tony showed up at the starting gate of race 2 with the mathematical chance to win the World Championship.
